VOTE.COM http://www.vote.com Dick Morris has created a web site with his wife, Eileen McGann. It is a fully interactive site designed to assess voters’ opinions on important public issues and forward results to House and Senate members and the President. Both sides of an issue will be presented. The November 3 issue of the Drudge Report indicated that the White House started blocking all incoming emails from this site. It bounced back 20,000 emails in a 24 hours period. A White House insider told the Drudge Report, "’ we are treating this as we treat any other vicious spamming.’" The site also publishes an online magazine described as "irreverent, probing and investigative."

CNS NEWS http://www.cnsnews.com – Conservative News Service This Site was launched in June, 1998 as an on-line, primary news source to "balance" the "liberal bias" in many news outlets. This bias has been studied by the parent organization, the Media Research Center. Information from the Site can be reproduced and rebroadcast at no cost. CNS News focuses on Top Headlines, with short summaries and links to the full story. Special features include its Campaign 2000, a review of the Republican Presidential on-line web sites, and a regular column by Brent Bozell III. Also included are conservative media links and radio uplinks to Rush Limbaugh and G. Gordon Liddy. There is a bulletin board and chat room for response and discussion.

POLITICAL VOICES - http://www.politicalvoices.com They describe themselves as "the latest in politics and news." The site includes the latest political headlines (with the time the piece was entered). You might click onto the cartoons that are organized by artist as well as by subject. They have a Discussion Forum that includes a section on jokes, and a Political Opinion page that targets a few key columnists. Currently they feature David Broder, "A Skeptical Electorate in Search of Leadership," Robert Novak, "Congress is Wallowing in Pork," Clarence Page, "Bush And Gore’s Leadership Flaps," and Arianna Huffington, "Why Johnny And Georgie Can’t Lead."

PRESIDENT CLINTON TOWN HALL VOICECHAT http://www.excite.com/townhall Excite and the DLC (Democratic Leadership Council) presented a live chat on 11/8/99. An individual could watch the webcast via Excite Chat or participate by submitting questions. The first presidential web-based Town Hall meeting has been compared to the FDR "Fireside chats." This will be the first of many presidential dialogues with the electorate, as we learn to use the Internet more effectively.

CAMPAIGN FOR AMERICA’S FUTURE - http://www.ourfuture.org Organized by 100 prominent citizen activists and policy experts, the site aims to challenge the "big money corporate agenda" by discussing and debating the issues. Campaign for America’s Future hopes to "revitalize a progressive agenda". Their Issues 2000 program is a bi-weekly series on the candidates and major issues. They have examined health care, education and finance reform. The issue currently under discussion is Trade Policy, focusing on the Seattle conference to be held at the end of November. They have an activist handbook, an on-line speaker’s directory and a section on progressive news and analysis.

POLITICAL ON LINE CONFERENCE - http://www.gspm.org/politicsonline The annual Politics OnLine Conference, sponsored by the Graduate School of Political Management, will be held December 6th in Washington, DC. The conference "provides a forum to discuss and dissect the emerging changes in the political community… for showcasing ideas, information and technology that are revolutionizing political communications strategies." Registration and a list of speakers are on-line. They will present a Golden Dot Award for the best online efforts in political and public policy advocacy.

LIBERTARIAN PARTY – http://www.lp.org   The site offers an excellent introduction to Libertarian philosophy and positions. There is a quiz, "Are you a Libertarian?" They seem to know how to use the internet as a cohesive vehicle, more effectively than the Democratic or Republican party. The Party organization is very supportive of candidates running for office at the local, state and national level, listing the candidates, their email and web addresses. There are over 40 links to state and local newsletters published by affiliate organizations around the country. You can receive updates via email, and you can easily find a Directory of state and national officers and party web sites.

INTERNET PARTY/CONSTITUTION PARTY – http://www.internet-party.org The U.S. Taxpayers Party was renamed the Constitution Party. An emphasis on constitutional issues and enforcement has brought the U.S. Taxpayers Party and the Internet Party closer together. The result is that the Internet Party is merging with the newly formed Constitution Party. Brian Saunders is stepping down as the Internet Party candidate for President and will be supporting Howard Phillips of the Constitution Party.

Election.gif (1121 bytes)

BUSHLITE – http://www.bushlite.net They describe themselves as "parody with a purpose" , "an official funny web site". As the Republican frontrunner, George W. will be under greater scrutiny. Parody sites will spring up. You can "Meet Dubya", and "Ask Dubya". The latest Campaign News: "Bush Lite Takes Straw Poll: ‘I have a lot of experience with straws and rolled-up dollar bills…’" "Bush Lite Announces Formation of Exploratory Committee to Study Possibility of Establishing Steering Committee to Explore Potential Preliminary Position Statements: ‘The American people are crying out for leadership…’"

BRADLEY-GORE2000.COM – http://www.Bradley-Gore2000.com   This sites pokes fun at Bradley and Gore. Their home page "Leadership for a new millennium has Bradley choosing Gore as VP after describing the terrific accomplishments of the 7 Gore years as VP; Gore, describing himself as "the inventor of the Internet" and the champion of "non-working families" is also lampooned. Their exclusive interview with Naomi Wolf is humorous. The Site has a forum where it posts the comments of readers. The author of this site dubs himself as "deep throat."

HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON FOR U.S. SENATE – http://www.hillary2000.org  This is an Exploratory Committee Site – very busy but with a definite theme. There is an effort to make the entire experience of visiting the site personal. You can follow her trips around New York State ("Come Along" column), read about all of her birthday celebrations, the personal notes to her, etc. If you want to email her, the site makes you feel as though you are writing a postcard, ("Dear Hillary"). There is, of course, the full gamut of information about her background, the issues and different ways to volunteer in the campaign and, of course, to contribute. The site has no direct mail link to her.

JOE RILEY FOR MAYOR – http://www.joeriley.com   Joe Riley won his 7th term as Charleston Mayor with 71% of the vote. The campaign was an effective user of email as a volunteer recruiter and support vehicle. The endorsement petition emailed to friends, snow balled as friends emailed friends.

WELCOME TO KEN-DO!!!! – http://kenhechlerforcongress.com  The author of "The Bridge at Remagen" has a definite flair for the written word. He effectively uses his name to advertise his campaign. Cleverly beginning with "What Ken Do?" to highlight his background and issue positions, he continues with "What Ken We Do?", a volunteer pitch. The site even has a campaign song, and an easy way to remember his telephone number. The photos on the home page portray an active, vibrant man, making it hard to believe that he was an advisor to Harry Truman! The site illustrates that it is possible to be clever while delivering a serious message.
