    7/15/2014- Senate Race Update – Republicans need 6 seats to take the Senate.  Three Dem. Seats are probably going to the GOP (1) – MT and open seats in(2) SD and (3) NV.    (4) AR & LA – Sen. Mark Pryor (D) has a strong challenger – Rep. Tom Cotton (R). (5) LA – Sen. Mary Landrieu (D) may have a run-off against Rep Bill Cassidy (R).  (6) IA- Open Seat –St. Sen Joni Ernst (R) running well against Rep. Bruce Braley (D) who had early missteps.   Repubs have additional opportunities in AK, NC, CO.  Dem opportunities exist in GA and KY. (From Stuart Rothenberg Reports).

    TX Run-off - Rep. Ralph Hall (R) – he 91 year old, 18 term Congressman, is the first incumbent to lost his re-election bid. Atty John Ratcliffe,  a Tea Party candidate, won with 52% of the vote.  This is a Safe Republican seat.

    KY Primary - May 20th – Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) is slated to beat his Tea Party opponent Matt Bevin but this was not an easy win.  McConnell will them mostly likely face Sec of State Alison Lundergan Grimes (D).  Polls show them tied.

    NE - Open Senate Seat – Tea Party Favorite Ben Sasse (R) President of Midland University picked up 49% of the voter over former St. Treas. Shane Osborn and Omaha banker Sid Dinsdale.  This is a safe Republican seat.

    MI - Rep. John Conyers (D,CD13)  – will not appear on the Aug 5 Primary Ballot as a Democratic Candidate.  His opponent Pastor Horace SheffieldIII (D) challenged his designating signatures and the Court has upheld the challenge.  This is a safe Democratic Seat. Conyers has represented the district since 1965.

    NC - 6.5 million registered voters - less than 16% turned out for the Primary (May 6th). The Senate race will be very competitive.  Sen. Kay Hagan (D) will face St. Hse Speaker Thom Tillis (R). Tillis won without a run-off.  Romney won the State in 2012 with 2.3 million votes; Obama won in 2008 with 2.1 million votes.  (Washington Post).
